healthkit-ios8Apple today announced its iOS health initiative that will allow iOS owners to analyze important health-related information on their iOS device. The new HealthKit API and companion Health app are designed to make it easy for consumers to monitor their health by bringing together data from wearable sensors, apps and other sources.

HealthKit serves as repository for app developers and wearable manufacturers to send their data so users can get an overall picture of their health. It includes a companion iOS app Health app that compiles this data and translates it into something that is easy to understand. Nike and Mayo Clinic are two of the first health and fitness oriented businesses to support this new Health initiative.
