iPadOS 15 is a major new OS update from Apple, which comes with a revamped home screen experience with widgets support, improved multitasking experience, and more. If you own a relatively old iPad and are wondering whether it is compatible with iPadOS 15 or not, read below.

Apple was expected to drop support for some of the older iPads with iPadOS 15. iOS 15 supports the same set of iPhones as iOS 14, and Apple has taken a similar approach here. The company continues to support the same set of iPads that it did with iPadOS 14. This means that even the aging iPad Air 2 will be able to run iPadOS 15 later this year.

iPadOS 15 Compatible Devices

iPadOS 15 is compatible with the following iPads:

  • 2020 iPad Pro
  • 2018 iPad Pro
  • 2017 iPad Pro
  • 2015 iPad Pro
  • 7th gen. iPad
  • 6th gen. iPad
  • 5th gen. iPad
  • iPad Air 3
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 5
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad Air 2

Do note that many of the new iPadOS 15 features require an iPad that’s powered by an A12 Bionic chip or newer. This includes Portrait mode in FaceTime calls, offline Siri processing, and more.

Apple has already released the first developer beta of iPadOS 15. If you are a registered developer, you can install iPadOS 15 on your iPad right away. The public beta of iPadOS 15 is scheduled to start in July.
