Unc0ver iOS 12.4 Jailbreak

The @pwn20wnd team dropped a public jailbreak for iOS 12.4 — the latest public release of iOS — earlier this week. The jailbreak surprised many since this was after years that we got a public jailbreak for the latest iOS release. The iOS 12.4 jailbreak was made possible in part due to a fault from Apple as it accidentally reverted the patch for the SockPuppet exploit that it fixed in iOS 12.3.

The jailbreak community is obviously elated at an iOS 12.4 jailbreak. However, many users have been unable to successfully jailbreak their iPhone or iPad running iOS 12.4. The jailbreaking process itself is pretty straightforward but for many users, the process just fails to work for some reason. For others, while the jailbreak process might go through, Cydia fails to install on their iPhone or iPad.

If you have also been facing issues while trying to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12.4, check out some of the remedies mentioned below for some common issues you might be facing.

Fix iOS 12.4 Unc0ver Jailbreak Issues

Turn Off Find my iPhone

If the jailbreak process just keeps failing for you for no reason whatsoever, you should turn off Find my iPhone, reboot your device, put it in Airplane mode, and then re-run Unc0ver. If the process still fails the first time around, just keep trying to jailbreak a few times.

Crash at 8/31 in Unc0ver

If the Unc0ver app keeps crashing for you during the 8/31 stage of the jailbreaking process, you should update the app to a newer version. This issue seems to plague the v3.5.3 release of Unc0ver. The team is already out with Unc0ver 3.5.5 which fixes all such issues.

To update Unc0ver, simply delete the app on your iPhone and then proceed to install/download it again.

Cydia Crashing

Don’t get too excited if the entire jailbreak process goes smoothly for you. It is possible that when you open Cydia, it will just keep crashing even after a successful jailbreak. In such a scenario, you will have to reboot your iPhone/iPad and then re-jailbreak it again. This should help fix the issues with Cydia. In case that does not work, make sure to check that you are running the latest version of Unc0ver.

Cydia Not Accessible

You might not be able to access Cydia or your Cydia account despite a successful iOS 12.4 jailbreak. To solve this issue, open the Unc0ver app on your iPhone/iPad, go to Settings, and select the reinstall Cydia and reset Cydia cache.

No iPhone XS, iPhone XR Support

Do not try to jailbreak your iPhone XS or iPhone XR using Unc0ver right now because that is not going to work. In case you missed all the jailbreaking news, Unc0ver and Chimera only support jailbreaking A8-A11 iOS devices running iOS 12.4.

The Unc0ver team is still figuring out how to get a PAC bypass as that’s necessary for a full-fledged jailbreak experience. Unc0ver does have partial support for A12/X Bionic devices but without a PAC bypass that is not really useful.
