2017 vs 2018 MacBook Pro Comparison

Apple is said to be working on a MacBook Pro with a pretty big display, measuring somewhere between 15 and 17 inches. Initial reports had the new laptop launching this year, but now it looks like at least one analyst believes the device could launch in 2021.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has put together a revised research note, saying that a few of the initial launch expectations for Apple’s newest hardware have been changed. Specifically, as it relates to the new MacBook Pro, Kuo now expects Apple to launch the product some time in the first half of 2021.

Beyond that, Apple will reportedly launch a new iPad model, with a display that measures between 10 and 12 inches, some time between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. What isn’t changing, though, is the expected release date for the rumored 31.6-inch 6K display Apple is working on. That panel is said to launch either in the second quarter or third quarter of this year.

That first report from Kuo stated that Apple’s new MacBook Pro will boast an “all-new” design, but did not go into any great detail on what that could mean. It is said the new laptop could boast 32GB of RAM, though, among other changes.

Our Take

That is quite the wait for a new MacBook Pro with a new design. One has to wonder what the company will do with the MacBook Pro lineup between now and then. Will we see minor updates? Will Apple redesign the butterfly keyboard —which it has admitted can have reliability issues– before 2021? What do you think?
