Your first instinct is to hard reset iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max if it is acting up or its screen freezes. After getting rid of the Home button in iPhone X, Apple has changed the process to hard reset the new iPhones.

If you’re a new iPhone user or upgrading from an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus or older iPhone model, then you need to follow these steps to hard reset your iPhone XS or iPhone XS.

Step 1: Press Volume Up

Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.

Step 2: Press Volume Down

Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.

Step 3: Press and Hold Side Button

Press and hold the Side button. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but continue holding the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Hard reset is just a forced reboot that is usually used in fixing problems on your iPhone such as when it freezes or slows down to such an extent that you cannot interact with anything properly. And as this is life, the same issues are bound to happen with your iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max down the line. Force Restart, Hard Reset, Force Reboot, all mean the same thing and you will see these phrases used interchangeably.

I must admit that even after using the iPhone X for more than a year, it takes me a while to recollect how to hard reset my iPhone. This has turned from an easy gesture to a bit of an orchestrated dance.
