HomePod Features 2

While HomePod doesn’t directly integrate with the Apple TV like Chromecast does with Google Home, that doesn’t mean you can’t use HomePod as an excellent speaker system for your Apple TV. Using AirPlay, you can wirelessly connect your HomePod to your Apple TV and use it as a soundbar replacement. While HomePod is designed for music playback, it provides a rich sound when it comes to movies and TV shows as well.

How To Set Up HomePod on Apple TV

Once you’ve set up your HomePod using your iPhone or iPad, make sure it’s turned on when you’re using your Apple TV.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Apple TV.

Step 2: Select Video and Audio.

Step 3: Select Audio Output.

Step 4: From the Other Speakers section, select your HomePod.

Now, your HomePod is selected as an output.

How to Control Video Playback Using Siri

You can use Siri to control the video playback on the Apple TV once you’re up and running.

Play/Pause: Say “Hey Siri, play” or Hey Siri, pause” to resume or pause the playback.

Skip/Rewind: You can even ask Siri to skip a couple of seconds, minutes or hours. Just say “Hey Siri skip ahead 30 seconds” or “Hey Siri go back 3 minutes”.

How to Switch To HomePod Speakers on Apple TV

HomePod is a standalone music player. So the next time you boot up your Apple TV, it won’t be the default audio output. But now that you’ve paired your HomePod with your Apple TV, switching to it is just like switching to any other AirPlay devices (like AirPods).

When you’re viewing any media, swipe down to bring up the information panel. Here’s go to the Audio section and select your HomePod. The audio output will switch to the HomePod instantly.

Coming Soon: Stereo Mode

Once AirPlay 2 goes live in iOS 11.3 and tvOS 11.3, you’ll be able to use two HomePods at the same time. While you won’t be able to set them as a dedicated left or right channel, both HomePods will work together to better fill your room with rich sound. Apple will use its software smarts to balance out the sound between the two speakers.
