Sharing your location in Facebook Messenger has been around for a long time, but a new feature was added to the app recently that allows you to share your ‘Live Location’.

With the new live location feature, you can now allow your friends to view your location in real-time. This means that your location is updated as you move around and this can be viewed by the people with whom you decide to share.

By default, live location is disabled and is available as an opt-in feature. Once you enable sharing your live location with a friend, it will remain available for up to 60 minutes before being turned off automatically.

Here’s how to share your live location with a friend in Facebook Messenger.

How to Share Live Location in Facebook Messenger

Step 1: Open the Facebook Messenger app on your iPhone and go to a specific conversation where you wish to share your live location.

Step 2: Tap on the plus icon and select Location.

Step 3: Tap on Share Live Location.

Step 4: Your friend with whom you decided to share your location can now track you in real-time. On the map preview, you can also view the amount of duration left before the live location will be disabled automatically.

Step 5: To stop sharing your location, tap on the plus icon and choose Location. Then tap on the Stop Sharing button.

This is how you can share your live location in Facebook Messenger. This is an opt-in feature which means that not everyone can view your location in real-time. It is only accessible by people with whom you decide to share your live location, and that for a limited duration of 60 minutes. Currently, there’s no way that you can change this default duration.

Live location is quite similar to the Find My Friends app in iOS that allows you to keep track of the location of your friends in real-time and vice versa. The only difference is that this feature can now be accessed directly from a conversation in Facebook Messenger.
