Running out of battery on your iPhone doesn’t only happen in poorly directed horror movies. When you are on low power and about to run out of battery life during a road trip, in the middle of an intense conversation, or when streaming the last episode of Breaking Bad, it’s always a nuisance. Apple is aware of this, and finally introduced a remedy in iOS 9 — Low Power Mode.

How to use iOS 9 Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode’s name pretty much explains what the feature does. For people with low battery or those that simply want to conserve battery power from the outset, you can now enable Low Power Mode. Low Power Mode temporarily reduces power consumption by turning off or reducing mail fetch, background app refresh, automatic downloads, and some visual effects. Find and enable low power mode in Settings -> Battery -> Low Power Mode.

Battery - Settings

You will know that Low Power Mode is enabled when the battery icon turns yellow. Apple states that Low Power Mode can save up to 3 hours of additional time before you’ll need to charge. When you have charged up your device to a sufficient level (80%), your device will automatically turn off Low Power Mode.

Needless to say, one hour can go a really long way when you are low on power. While Android users will surely shake their heads, since Apple took a very long time adding support for an obvious need, I’m just happy it’s here.
