In a better-late-than-never move, iOS 9 finally brings the ability to attach files in the Mail app. It has been a much requested features for years and now it is here. You can attach files from iCloud Drive and save attachments to iCloud Drive as well.
How to save or attach any type of file in the Mail app
In previous iOS version you’d have to add attachments using a third-party app, export it to iCloud and then attach it to your message in Mail. Needless to see this was an annoying process and held the Mail app back from legitimate power users. But now, that has changed in iOS 9.
How to save attachments in the Mail app
Step. 1
Open the Mail app and find an email with an attachment.
Step 2.
If the attachment hasn’t already downloaded, tap on the icon to download it.
Step 3.
Tap and hold on the attachment to open up the Share sheet.
Step 4.
In the Share sheet, swipe until you see the Save Attachment icon. Tap on the icon and you will be taken to iCloud Drive. Select where you wish to save the file and tap Move to this location.
If you have Google Drive, Dropbox or another supported application, there will be an option to choose Locations in the top left of the iCloud Drive screen.
How to Add Attachments in the Mail app
Step 1.
To add an attachment in Mail. Compose a message and tap and hold on an empty area to bring up the pop-up menu. Swipe until you see Add Attachment.
Step 2.
When you select Add Attachment you’ll be taken to iCloud Drive.
Again, if you have Google Drive, Dropbox or another application, you can select Locations in the top left to choose a file from another source.
Step 3.
Select your file and it will be added to your message.
Step 4.
Send your message.

The support for attachments was a much-needed feature for the Mail app. While this may not be a mind-blowing addition for iOS 9, it’s definitely one that Mail users will appreciate.
