How to Install OS X 10.11 El Capitan Public Beta Today

Apple recently made OS X 10.11 El Capitan available to its public beta members. iOS 9 is also available for beta users, which we will also show you how to install. If you haven’t signed up to be a beta tester, the process is pretty easy and you can check out all the steps right here. Once you’ve singed up for the beta program the install is pretty smooth and we have all the steps covered for you. 

STEP 1.

As as a member of the beta program you will have received an email to the address you signed up with. Inside of this email there will be a link, “Go to the Apple Beta Software Program” where you will download and install the OS X 10.11 software update.

STEP 2.

The link will take you online to the beta home page. You will need to sign in with your Apple information before proceeding to the download page.

STEP 3.

Once signed in, the next page will show two tab at the top of the page of OS X and iOS, choose OS X.

Scroll down and read the steps carefully. It is suggested that you back up your device before you install any new software. Back up your computer using Time Machine or your own personal method.

Step 4.

Download the OS X El Capitan public beta. Make sure you have at least 8 GB of free space on your hard drive in order to make room for the new installation. There will be a redemption code under the download button; copy this to be used for the next step.

Step 5.

Enter in your redemption code. My, code entered in automatically without my having to type anything, but if not, enter in the code manually. Once entered, your OS X download will begin.

You can check the status of your download in Launchpad or inside the App Store.

Step 6.

Once your download is completed the OS X El Capitan install will launch. Hit continue to begin the installation process.

Select the disk that you want the OS X to be installed and wait for the installation process to finish. Depending on your computer specs and connection, the download should take around 45 minutes to an hour.

Once installed you will need to restart your device so make sure to save any unfinished work. Upon boot you will have a fresh installation of OS X El Capitan installed. Remember that this is a beta version so there may be some issues. If you do run into any issues there is a Feedback Assistant installed. Click on this to send any issues or suggestions to the Apple development team.

I haven’t noticed a jump in speeds yet, but I did take advantage of one OS X El Capitan feature. Split View is awesome!
