How to make a Phone Call on your Apple Watch

One the biggest advantages of the Apple Watch over its competitors is the device’s ability to initiate a phone call directly from the wrist-worn device. Thanks to the Watch’s onboard microphone and speaker, phone calls are a loud and clear in most circumstances. Read on to find out how to start a conversation by talking to your Watch.

Use Siri on the Watch to make a phone call

The easiest way to initiate a phone call from the Apple Watch is through Siri. Just activate the voice assistant and tell her who you want to call.

  1. Raise your Apple Watch or tap the screen to wake up the Watch.
  2. Activate Siri by speaking “Hey Siri” or pressing and holding the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch.
  3. Say “Call” and the name of the person you want to call. For example, you can say “Call Mike” or “Call Dad.”
  4. If Siri offers more than one contact, then you should Tap the number you want to call.

Use the Friends list to make a phone call

Besides Siri, Apple also allows you to initiate a call from the Friends app, which stores up to 12 of your favorite contacts from your iPhone.

  1. Open the Friends app by pressing the side button on the Apple Watch
  2. Turn the Digital Crown or tap on the screen to select the person you would like to call.
  3. Tap on the Call button in the bottom left to initiate a call.

Use the Watch Phone app to make a phone call

If you need to place a phone call to a contact who is not on your Friends list, then you can open the Phone app to access everyone on your contact list.

  1. Launch the dialer by tapping the Phone app from the Home screen of the Apple Watch.
  2. Choose a contact from your Favorites, Recents, or Contacts.
  3. Tap the name of the contact you want to call.
