If you’ve just bought your shiny new iPad Air or Retina iPad mini, but don’t like the traditional Home Button-based way of closing and switching apps, you should learn the “hidden” multitasking gestures to make the whole process a lot easier and quicker.

Read on to learn how to use these multitasking gestures.

Enable Multitouch Gestures

The iPad comes with multitasking gestures enabled by default, but you can check by going to Settings > General and scrolling down to the Multitasking Gestures toggle and see if it has been enabled. If not, tap on the On/Off toggle to enable it.

Swipe up to reveal multitasking switcher

Anywhere on the screen, swipe up with four or five fingers to get to the multitasking switcher, which shows you card based previews for each app that you’ve opened recently. You can scroll through the apps, and switch to any one of them by simply tapping on it. To kill an app, simply swipe up on one of the app cards.

Swipe left or right to switch between apps

If you’re a fan on ⌘ + Tab on your Mac for easily switching between apps, you’ll be glad to know that you can easily switch between apps by swiping left or right on the screen with four or five fingers.

Pinch to go to home screen

Instead of using the Home Button to close an app and go to your home screen, you can also do a four finger pinch to close an app.

Let me know what you think of these multitasking gestures. Have you been using them? I use it a lot on my iPad and miss Zephyr, the jailbreak tweak that brings these gestures to the iPhone, since there isn’t an iOS 7 jailbreak yet.
