Ben Brooks over at Brooks Review has observed that deleting and reconfiguring Touch ID in iOS 7.0.3 dramatically speeds up the system.

He says that many iPhone 5s users have confirmed to him that they’re also noticing performance improvement with the Touch ID system after deleting and reconfiguring it. He writes:

I had about a 50% success rate before 7.0.3 and now it is near 100% and works instantly. The difference is really dramatic.

Frankly, Touch ID was already quite responsive, so I couldn’t really make out the difference. I also had almost 100% success rate with Touch ID before iOS 7.0.3, so I don’t think iOS 7.0.3 improves Touch ID’s accuracy.

For what it’s worth, Apple hasn’t mentioned anything in the iOS 7.0.3 release notes about improving the speed and accuracy of Touch ID.

But there is also no harm trying it out to see if iOS 7.0.3 speeds things up in your case. So if you’ve upgraded to iOS 7.0.3, all you need to do is launch the Settings app, navigate to General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID, then tap on Edit and then tap on the “-” icon to delete one of the fingerprints in the list. You can then set up the fingerprint again by tapping on the Add a Fingerprint option and following on-screen instructions.

Let me know if you’ve noticed an improvement in performance and accuracy in the comments below.
